Self-Love, there was a time in my life when I would do a massive eye roll ?, when I heard those two words strung together. I felt similarly about self-care, and in my diet roller coaster days, what I called “self-care” looked and felt more like self-deprecation.

I was tied to the whipping post of diet, binge, repeat while being whipped with the switch labeled you suck and will never have the body you desire. 

I had the false idea that meal prepping, sweating it out in the gym sometimes twice a day, severely restricting my calories, was self-care and would lead to self-love eventually when I “got in shape.”

All I really achieved was mastering the ability to disconnect from what my body truly needed and perpetual self-doubt. 

Love and care were really not part of the equation. It was more like deprivation, distraction, and destruction, and it felt nothing like ❤️.

Albeit a long-winded way of getting to what self-love is, it took lots of contrast to “get it” for me! 

Self-Love . . .

  • It is deeply connecting to our needs.
  • Meeting ourselves with compassion and grace every day, especially when we are operating from a pattern or story.  
  • Sorting through our visceral Yes and NO
  • Allow ourselves space to “feel” to heal the ruptures in our system. 

These examples are just the tip of the iceberg.  

My journey toward self-love brought me many teachers, healers, coaches, and mentors. I say “journey towards” because I’m not sure it’s somewhere that we arrive.  

And in each of these cases, it’s not like I showed up saying….“Can you help me love myself more?” It was more like discovering the unhealed “parts” of myself that kept me searching for love externally instead of embodying it internally and then being able to transmit it for myself and in full connection with others.  

Yikes, that was a true game-changer for me. So I encourage you, wherever you are in the journey, to ask yourself, “Am I operating from LOVE or for LOVE?!?

It’s a subtle shift in words and a MAJOR opportunity for transcending old patterns and default behaviors into new ways of being, resulting in more joy and flow in your life.
